Ma, daughter drown in Silay City
BACOLOD CITY — It will be a sad Christmas for a family from Bais City.
A 34-year-old mother managed to save her 2-year-old daughter from drowning in Silay City, Negros Occidental but lost her life saving another.
Malou Caloring, 34, died while while attempting to save her 14-year-old daughter who also drowned, the police said.
Caloring, who hails from Bais City, Negros Oriental, her two daughters, and husband arrived in Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City, Monday to visit her family for Christmas.
She was washing clothes at the Malisbog River in Barangay E Lopez in Silay City on Tuesday when the incident happened.
A section of the Malisbog riverbank where her daughters were standing caved in, causing them to fall into the water, a police report said.
Article continues after this advertisementThe body of the 14-year-old victim, whose identity was withheld by the police, was recovered by her uncle, Rolando Tresa, three hours after Caloring drowned.
Both were declared dead on arrival at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City. /ee
