After wild chase from Mandaluyong, citizens catch robber in Manila

08:17 PM November 05, 2018

This robber was no good for a group of concerned citizens who did not let him get away with his crime even if it means kilometric pursuit from Mandaluyong to Manila.

Victorio Ramirez, 54, of Pandacan in Manila entered a parlor in Mandaluyong last Sunday noon and posed as a customer needing a hair treatment. But even before his butt could warm up the seat, he suddenly pulled out a knife and declared a heist.

The suspect was able to seize over P18,000 cash as well as gadgets, ATM and credit cards, among others, from parlor staff and customers, before hopping in an alleged getaway taxi (UVX-548) waiting outside.

Parlor attendants immediately sought the help of bystanders, village security members, and police, who promptly gave chase to Ramirez and his alleged cohort. They missed the suspects’ getaway vehicle, but not Manuel Jose Ringor, 27.

Despite his wife and son also aboard his motorcycle, Ringor did not lose sight of the getaway taxi. Ringor used his motorbike to block Ramirez and company’s car in front of Fatima Church in Sta. Mesa. But the suspect went out of the vehicle and tried to stab Ringor’s son, but failed.

The chase continued towards Quirino Highway where Ringor sought the help of bystanders. The suspects tried to hit those who joined the hunt but missed. And so the irked bystanders fought back by smashing the windshield of the taxi, which eventually helped Ringor to grab Ramirez. The suspect’s cohort, however, managed to escape.

Police finally caught up with Ramirez, who was already being held by civilians, when they arrived at the scene.

Authorities said robbery complaint was being prepared against Ramirez while a follow-up operation was launched to catch the other suspect. Faye Orellana, INQUIRER.net  /kga
