Classes in Iloilo City suspended after 4.8-magnitude quake

Classes in all levels in Iloilo City were suspended Monday morning after a 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit the city.

In a post on the official Facebook page of the government of Iloilo City, Mayor Jose Espinosa III ordered the suspension of classes in both public and private schools in all levels “to ensure the safety of everyone in Iloilo City because of the earthquake.”

The mayor also said the city hall would be closed for the rest of the day but he left to the discretion of private companies and national government agencies to suspend work in their respective offices.

The 4.8-magnitude quake hit 5 km northwest of Guimba, Iloilo City at 10:54 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported.

It was felt at Intensity IV in the city.

The tremor was the third to hit the island of Panay on Monday morning./cbb
