Peralta named acting SC Senior Associate justice until Nov. 4
Supreme Court Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta is now acting senior associate justice after the high court’s most senior member and acting chief, Antonio Carpio, took a leave of absence.
Through a special order by Carpio issued on Tuesday, Peralta was designated “as acting Senior Associate Justice” starting October 31 until November 4.
According to the order, Peralta has been authorized “to exercise the powers and prerogatives of and pertaining to the position of Senior Associate Justice, under Section 12 of R.A. 296, as amended, on matters that cannot wait for the undersigned (Carpio), effective October 31, 2018, until the undersigned reports back to work.”
Peralta is the second most senior associate justice of the high court.
Carpio and Perlata are both nominees of the Chief Justice position after former Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo de Castro retired in early October. /ee
