Pimentel confident he will prevail in disqualification case
Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III is confident that he will “prevail” in the disqualification case filed against his Senate bid at the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Earlier, lawyer Ferdinand Topacio filed the case against the senator, saying that he had served two consecutive terms as senator and the law proscribes him from seeking another term.
Topacio filed the petition before the clerk of Comelec on Monday morning.

“Lawyers will answer the petition in due time if still required by Comelec. However, Comelec may surprise us by dismissing the petition outright for being a nuisance petition,” Pimentel said in a text message to reporters on Monday.
“But in any case, we are ready, and we know the correct answer to this issue. The consti[tution], law, jurisprudence, and the basic concept of fairness are all on our side. Hence we are very very confident that we will prevail,” he added.
