CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—A municipal councilor who is poised to run as vice mayor of Sasmuan town in Pampanga in the elections next year, is now fighting for his life after two men stabbed and shot him on Saturday (Oct. 6).

The attack left Councilor Jesus “Boyet” Angeles with eight stab wounds and two gunshot wounds, according to Senior Insp. Nicanor Zingalawa, the town’s police chief.

Police said Angeles was jogging when he was assaulted by the suspects at 6:30 a.m. along Dalan Babo, a road that has served as a jogging lane in Barangay (village) Sta. Lucia. Police said the suspects who were wearing balaclavas to hide their faces, managed to escape.

Angeles was rushed to a hospital, while the other joggers in the area at the time were interviewed to assist in the police investigation, Zingalawa said.

Vice Governor Dennis Pineda, vice-chair of the local political party Kambilan, meanwhile condemned the attack and asked the police to increase security on the run-up to Oct. 11, when candidates will start filing their certificates of candidacies for the 2019 midterm elections.  /muf
