A sweet tooth may not just bring cavities. It can also land you in jail.

A man in Mandaluyong City has learned this lesson the bitter way as police officers arrested him on Thursday afternoon for allegedly stealing chocolates from a supermarket.

Suspect identified as Renato Calupas Jr. allegedly posed as a customer and took eight pieces of imported chocolates worth P1,770, according to a report from the Eastern Police District (EPD) on Friday.

Calupas allegedly hid the sweets inside a red paper bag and left the store without paying at the cashier. Police said a security guard on duty noticed the shoplifting and called the authorities, which led to the suspect’s arrest.

Calupas was taken to the office of the EPD for further investigation while a case of theft is being prepared for filing against him before the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor’s Office. /muf
