DOTr to shoulder medical expenses of 7 personnel injured in MRT-3 mishap

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Wednesday said it would shoulder the medical expenses of the seven Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) personnel who were injured in the “accidental collision” of two of the line’s service vehicles.

“Seven (7) maintenance and security personnel sustained injuries and are now being treated at the VRP Medical Center. DOTr-MRT3 management has reached out to their families and will shoulder all their medical expenses,” the DOTr said in a statement.

The department added that the families of the injured personnel have also been informed about the accident.

Out of the seven injured, two have sustained fractures on their shoulders due to impact of the collision, the DOTr said.

They were identified as Roger Piamonte, lineman team leader, and driver technician Eric Anthony Cabab.

The DOTr also apologized to the public for the inconvenience that the accident may have caused.

At around 3 a.m., two maintenance vehicles of the MRT-3 line collided between Buendia and Guadalupe stations while its personnel were conducting track maintenance.

The accident caused a one-hour delay on the deployment of trains.  Trains are normally inserted at 4:30 a.m. but the deployment on Wednesday was moved to 5:30 a.m.

No information yet on the cause of the accident but the DOTr said that it would release a separate report once all information were already gathered.  /muf
