The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has canceled sea voyages to and from the ports of Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro as typhoon “Ompong” (international name: Mangkhut) begins to unleash its strength in parts of Luzon.

The PPA initially issued an advisory for the suspension of sea voyages from Mindoro ports on Thursday. It decided to continue implementing the order for Friday amid the onslaught of Ompong.

Specifically, vessel trips have been canceled in the ports of Calapan, Puerto Galera, Roxas, and Bulalacao in Oriental Mindoro; and Sano Jose, Abra de Ilog, and Lubang in Occidential Mindoro.

The PPA said sea voyages will resume if public storm warning signals are lifted in the areas of northern Occidental Mindoro and northern Oriental Mindoro.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Ompong was seen moving northwest at 20 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 205 kph and gustiness up to 255 kph. /kga
