Hontiveros lauds Filipino women medal winners in 2018 Asian Games
Sen. Risa Hontiveros on Tuesday commended the Filipino women medal winners in the 18th Asian Games.
Filipino athletes Hidilyn Diaz, Lois Kaye Go, Bianca Pagdanganan, Margielyn Didal, and Yuka Saso bagged gold medals in the regional sports competition held in Indonesia last August.
“[Diaz, Saso, Pagdanganan, and Go serve] as reminders of every Filipina’s resilience in the face of adversity, perseverance despite uncertainty and strength against all odds,” she said in a press statement on Tuesday.
Diaz won the country’s first gold medal in the 53-kilograms weightlifting event while Go, Pagdanganan, and Saso ruled the Women’s golf event. Didal, on the other hand, achieved first place in women skateboard event.

Article continues after this advertisementSenate President Vicente Sotto III said Diaz placed the Philippines in the “elite sporting map of the world” after her victory over other world-class athletes.
“Hidilyn’s successive triumph in these prestigious international sporting events has placed the Philippines in the elite sporting map of the world as she excelled and topped other world class competitors,” the Senate President said in a statement.
Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri also commended the Filipino medalists for bringing “honor, pride and inspiration to the Filipino people.” /ee
