Palace on new CJ De Castro: ‘Bravo! Best choice!’
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Saturday lauded the appointment of Chief Justice (CJ) Teresita Leonardo-de Castro, saying she was the “best choice” for the post.
“Bravo! Best choice for CJ! Proven competence, known nationalist and a streak of being a judicial activist,” Roque told reporters in a text message.
President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed De Castro for the position, who bested Associate Justices Diosdado Peralta and Lucas Bersamin.

De Castro replaced former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, who was earlier ousted via a quo warranto petition filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida.
She will be serving as Chief Justice until October 10, 2018, when she reaches the mandatory retirement age of 70. /muf
