Dole issues ‘double holiday’ pay rules for Aug. 21
The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) reminded employers to strictly observe the rules on the payment of wages for August 21, a special non-working day and a regular holiday.
Dole issued Labor Advisory 12 on Thursday after President Rodrigo Duterte declared August 21 as a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Adha, coinciding with the day being an annual non-working holiday to commemorate the death of former senator Benigno Aquino, Jr.
The Dole reiterated that if an employee did not work, he/she shall still be paid 100 percent of his/her salary for that day, depending on the company’s certain conditions under the implementing rules and regulations.
Meanwhile, those who will work on August 21 shall receive a double pay and an additional 30 percent, which is equivalent to 260 percent of an employee’s basic pay.
For overtime work, employees’ 260 percent pay shall have an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate on the said day
For employees whose rest day falls on the said day and will report to work, an additional 50 percent of their daily rate shall be given.
