‘Henry’, monsoon to dump more rain in many parts of Luzon

Heavy rainfall is likely to persist in Metro Manila, Cavite, Zambales, Batangas and Bataan in the next two hours amid the prevailing southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Depression Henry.

Yellow and orange rainfall warnings were issued at 6:20 a.m. for these areas, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Batanes remained under Signal No. 1 due to Henry, which was last spotted 75 kilometers west-southwest of Calayan, Cagayan. The tropical depression was blowing maximum sustained winds of 60 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 75 kph. Henry was moving 20 kph west-northwest.

Rains and gusty winds will continue over Batanes, northern portion of Cagayan, northern portion of Apayao, and northern portion of Ilocos Norte, Pagasa said.

Monsoon rains will still affect Metro Manila, Zambales, Cavite, Bataan, Mindoro, Palawan, and Western Visayas, it added.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said it has detected a low pressure area 825 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon.    /kga
