BUTUAN CITY – An inmate being held in isolation at the Agusan del Norte Provincial Jail was found dead, authorities said Tuesday.

The lifeless Bonifacio Pagaran, 40, and a resident of Barangay Agong-ong in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte province was found dead inside his cell after the routine exercise for inmates on Monday morning, according to provincial warden Fermin Anenorio.

It was the latest attempt of Pagaran, who was accused of making his daughter a sex slave for about five years, Anenorio said.

He said when he was brought to the prison on May 2, Pagaran also attempted suicide.

“I am sure that there was no foul play in the death of Pagaran, it is very clear that this was a suicide, we did not even move the dead body and waited for the Scene of the Crime Operative (SOCO) to arrive,” Anenorio added.

He said Pagaran’s family had told authorities they were not interested in having his body undergo an autopsy.
