JBC grills Ombudsman aspirants on June 20

Aspirants for the position of the Ombudsman are set to be publicly screened by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) on June 20, Wednesday.

The position is set to be vacated by Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales who will retire in July.

The JBC will grill nine candidates for the position at the Supreme Court (SC) Division Hearing Room. They are as follows:

-Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III

-SC Associate Justice Samuel Martires

-Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Efren de la Cruz

-Special Prosecutor Edilberto Sandoval

-Atty. Edna Batacan

-Atty. Rex Rico

-Atty. Rey Ifurung

-Atty. Rainier Madrid

-Atty. Felito Ramirez

Davao Regional Trial Court Judge Carlos Espero II, also an applicant for the position, would no longer be interviewed by the JBC. Instead, the council would use previous public interview for the position of SC Associate Justice to screen Espero.  /muf
