Official who closed Duterte probe handles Polong’s case
The same office that terminated the ill-gotten wealth investigation of President Rodrigo Duterte is now handling similar allegations against his son, resigned Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo “Polong” Duterte.
Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales confirmed on Monday that Polong’s cases were pending preliminary investigation by the Office of the Deputy Ombudsman for the Military and Other Law Enforcement Offices (Moleo).
Morales also confirmed that Polong’s cases involved alleged discrepancies in his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth.
“It was raffled [off] to Moleo, to Deputy Ombudsman [Cyril] Ramos,” she said in an interview with CNN Philippines.
Morales inhibits herself from cases involving the family of the President because he is the father-in-law of her nephew Manases Carpio.
Polong is facing two criminal complaints of graft and perjury, two administrative cases and one for forfeiture of unexplained wealth. —Vince F. Nonato
