Ecija police creates task force to solve priest’s murder

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has created a task force to investigate the gruesome murder of a priest in Nueva Ecija, the regional director of Central Luzon police said on Monday.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 3 Chief Supt. Amador Corpus said the Nueva Ecija police had created Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Nilo to probe the killing of Catholic priest Fr. Richmond Nilo.

“I have ordered my men to conduct thorough investigation for the possible and apprehension of suspects the soonest possible time. PRO3 strongly condemns the senseless killing of Fr. Nilo,” Corpus said in a statement.

Corpus said police detectives would leave no stone unturned in the investigation of Nilo’s murder.

Motorcycle-riding suspects gunned down Nilo, who was about to celebrate Mass at the chapel of Barangay Mayamot in Zaragosa town around 6 p.m. Sunday.

Nilo was the third priest to be killed by motorcycle-riding suspects in the past six months: Fr. Mark Ventura in Gattaran, Cagayan last April; and Fr. Marcelito Paez in Jaen, Nueva Ecija last December.

Corpus called on the public to report any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects in Nilo’s killing to the nearest police station or through hotline: 09985985330 and 0927946471.               /kga
