Suspected drug pusher killed in Cavite

SAN PEDRO CITY — A suspected pusher of crystal meth or “shabu” was killed during a brief police chase in General Trias City in Cavite province early on Monday.

Supt. Chitadel Gaoiran, spokesperson of the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon) police, named the slain suspect as Ruel Reyes, 24.

Reyes and a still unidentified companion were the targets of a police buy-bust operation around 3 a.m. in Barangay (village) Pasong Camachile II.

As the police were about to arrest them, Reyes reportedly fired his gun as he and the other suspect tried to escape. This led to a brief pursuit where Reyes was hit while his companion managed to flee aboard a motorcycle.

Reyes died on the way to the hospital, according to police.

Recovered from the scene were 11 sachets of suspected shabu and a caliber .38 gun, police added. /kga
