DID YOU KNOW: Sandiganbayan was created in 1978

The Sandiganbayan, a special court that has jurisdiction over criminal and civil cases involving graft and corruption committed by public officers and employees, was created by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 1486 signed on June 11, 1978.

The Sandiganbayan began its operations on Feb. 12, 1979. In further amendments under Republic Acts 7975 and 8249, jurisdiction of the antigraft court was confined to cases involving public officials with salary grade 27 and higher.

The Sandiganbayan, which has its main office in Quezon City, is currently composed of a presiding justice and 14 associate justices. —Marielle Medina
