Crackdown on colorum jeepneys strands Pangasinan town commuters

BINMALEY, PANGASINAN – The local government had deployed a truck to ferry Dagupan City-bound passengers stranded by a crackdown on Thursday morning (June 7) on erring and unregistered public utility vehicles (PUVs).

The operation against colorum PUVs had discouraged PUV operators and drivers from serving their routes, said Binmaley municipal administrator Diomedes Bonalos.

He said one company with a fleet of minibuses had sent out only one bus.

Binmaley is one town away from Dagupan and passengers commute on buses coming from Lingayen town.

Bonalos said a truck of the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office picked up people from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and would again serve stranded passengers from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The truck would be available each day until mass transportation here normalizes.

Donalos said the truck would make three trips in the mornings and in the afternoons, but he has instructed the driver to extend to 10 trips, if necessary.
