MEXICO CITY — Authorities in the Mexican border state of Chihuahua say two more bodies have been recovered following the rupture of a dam holding mineral tailings at a gold and silver mine.
State officials said in a statement Wednesday that the two mine workers were identified by relatives. A previously found body was still unidentified. Seven workers had been reported as missing and authorities say the search will continue.
The dam broke Monday at the Rio Tinto mine complex in Cineguita in the township of Urique. It sent a torrent of mining residue crashing down a steep mountainside carrying away heavy equipment and vehicles.
The mine is owned by the Mexican company Cluster Minero de Chihuahua. /muf
