Two suspected robbers die in encounter with Pasig police
Two alleged motorcycle-riding robbers who had just robbed a man were killed in a shootout in Pasig City Tuesday night, police said.
Police said the shootout happened after the suspects were flagged down in a police checkpoint along Jenny’s Avenue Ext. at Barangay Maybunga, Pasig City at around 11:45 p.m. Two other suspects escaped aboard another motorcycle, police added.
According to a police report, the four suspects onboard two motorcycles have earlier robbed Roel De Jesus while he was walking along Mabini St. in Barangay Kapasigan, Pasig City.
One of the suspects held De Jesus at gunpoint and grabbed the victim’s bag containing a cellphone and P2,000, police said.
The suspects then fled and De Jesus sought assistance from a police officer passing by. The police officer then reported the incident to the station’s tactical operations center.
Article continues after this advertisementAfter receiving the description of the suspects from the tactical operations center, elements of the Pasig City Police Community Precinct 4 who were conducting an “Oplan Sita” operation along F. Legaspi St. then saw the suspects and flagged them down. However instead of stopping, police said the suspects pulled out their handguns opened fire at the police officers.
Article continues after this advertisementThe policemen then gave chase and cornered the suspects at Jenny’s Avenue where the shootout happened.
Police officers rushed the injured suspects to the Pasig City General Hospital but died along the way.
Members of the Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered from the scene a Black Widow revolver without serial numbers and loaded with two spent shells and three live bullets, an Armscor caliber .38 revolver with serial numbers 51578 and with four shells, seven spent shells from an unknown gun caliber, two plastic sachets containing suspected crystal meth or shabu, and a blue Motorstar motorcycle with no license plates. /muf
