In May 2017, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s bicycle-sharing scheme was stopped as most of the bikes being lent out by the agency were in disrepair.
The Bike Loan Program of the National Bicycle Organization was able to record 402 bike borrowings in the first and second quarters of last year.
Only two bike lanes remained operational before the project was halted — the ones on Roxas Boulevard and White Plains/Temple Drive.
The Ortigas bike lane from Santolan to White Plains was opened in March 2014 and had one bike shelter.
On the other hand, the Roxas Boulevard bike lane opened in February 2015 and had three bike shelters.
By September 2017, all bike lanes were set for rehabilitation. —Marielle Medina
