Philippine Eagle Week is observed annually from June 4 to 10 by virtue of Proclamation No. 79 signed on Feb. 24, 1999, by then President Joseph Estrada.
The Philippine Eagle, the country’s national bird, is recognized both here and abroad as as a critically endangered bird.
The proclamation highlights the need to instill into the minds of Filipinos the importance of the Philippine Eagle as a biological indicator of the forest ecosystems, as well as a national symbol and as a unique heritage. —Marielle Medina
