Makati kicks off distribution of free school supplies
This year, the Makati City government is holding its annual classroom cleanup simultaneously with the distribution of free school supplies to students.
In a statement on Monday, Mayor Abby Binay encouraged students and their parents to participate in the weeklong “Brigada Eskwela” which started on May 21.
“This way, they will be able to help get their classrooms ready and, at the same time, receive their free uniforms and school supplies,” she said.
The Makati City government has allocated P700 million for its Project FREE (Free Relevant Excellent Education) which will provide over 90,000 public school — from preschool to senior high school — everything they need for the opening of classes on June 4.
These include pencils, pens, notebooks, writing pads and school bags on top of two sets of school uniforms: polo shirt and pants for boys and a blouse and skirt for girls.
Each student will also receive two sets of PE uniforms (shirt and jogging pants), one pair each of black leather shoes and rubber shoes, a raincoat and a pair of boots on top of dental and hygiene kits. —Dexter Cabalza
