Emilio Aguinaldo arrived in Cavite province from his exile in Hong Kong and issued a proclamation calling on Filipinos to unite and resume the revolution against Spaniards. The order broke the truce signed between Filipino revolutionists and Spaniards in the pact of Biak-na-Bato in December 1987.
May 22, 1959
The province of Lanao was divided into two separate provinces, namely Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur, by virtue of Republic Act No. 2228 signed by then President Carlos Garcia. Iligan City was named the capital of Lanao del Norte, while Marawi City was picked as the capital of Lanao del Sur. Both provinces were officially inaugurated on July 4 of the same year.
