Robredo orders Maguindanao execs to hasten arrest of massacre suspects

MANILA, Philippines – Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jessie Robredo has ordered all local chief executives in Maguindanao to exhaust all means to capture the more than 100 suspects in the 2009 killing who are still at large.

In a DZIQ 990 AM report, Robredo’s order came after he expressed disappointment over the slow movement of the justice system. The order was also in accordance to the government’s on-going “all-out-justice” campaign.

Robredo will visit the site where 57 persons, including 33 members of the media, were killed brutally in Maguindanao as part of the commemoration of the second year anniversary of the massacre. He will also meet with the relatives of the victims.

Robredo will be accompanied by incumbent Maguindanao Governor Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu who lost several relatives, including his sister and his wife, in the 2009 killing.

Mangudadatu will lead the lighting of candles and the offering of prayers for the victims.

At least 198 suspects, including Andal Ampatuan Jr. and Andal Ampatuan Sr., have been tagged as the primary suspects in the killing.
