The Alpha Phi Beta Fraternity of the University of the Philippines (UP) has condemned the killing of one of its members, Quezon City Deputy Prosecutor Rogelio “Roger” Velasco.

“The fraternity joins Brod Roger’s family, the Quezon City judiciary, prosecutorial service and legal groups, and the nation in mourning the loss of an honest and dedicated public servant who was never tainted with corruption, abuse or any form of wrongdoing,” it said in a statement.

Saying Velasco did not deserve his fate, the fraternity vowed to use all its manpower and resources to find the culprits in his murder.

“[We are] frustrated that in this time of our modern national history, our authorities remain unable to consistently stop and solve cases of horrific and heinous crimes against lawyers, journalists, parties and witnesses in pending cases, and even prosecutors, public defenders and trial court judges,” it said.

Velasco was shot dead by several men on May 11 after he left Quezon City Hall.
