Comelec: Failure of election may be declared only in one barangay

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Monday that the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections pushed through in all villages, except in one.

In a press briefing on Monday evening at Comelec’s head office in Intramuros, Manila, Acting Chairman Al Pareno said they are looking into reports of a possible failure of election in a village in Northern Samar.

“Elections are closed in almost all except one barangay in Northern Samar. Hindi pa sure if failure of election will be declared, medyo malayo yung area,” Pareno said.

Pareno said details have yet to reach the main office because the concerned barangay is in a far-flung district.

While the poll body is considering declaring failure of election in the said village, Pareno said they were careful not to announce it yet as polls may have pushed through.

“We want to be sure, iisa lang ang pumasok na report eh (we only received one report).” /ee
