‘All systems go’ for barangay, SK elections in Calabarzon
SAN PEDRO CITY – All polling precincts in the densely populated Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon) region are “functioning” well for Monday’s barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.
“So far, all precincts are functioning and no untoward incident reported. All systems go,” said Comelec regional director Juanito Icaro.
Icaro said they are expecting an 80-90 percent voter turnout from the estimated 13 million registered voters in this region. There are over 4,000 precincts in Calabarzon.
Meanwhile, regional police spokesperson Supt. Chitadel Gaoiran said around 4,000 policemen were deployed, while another 1,000 are on standby for deployment, to respond to election-related incidence.
Icaro said teachers performing election duties were at the precincts as early as 4 a.m. in order for voting to start at 7 a.m.
He said election is until 3 p.m. “but if by then, there would still be voters within the 30 meter radius, their names would be listed and would still be allowed to cast their votes.” /je
