Ex-Manila cop shot dead in Sampaloc ambush

A former policeman assigned at the Manila Police District (MPD) was killed following an ambush staged by two unidentified male and female assailants on board a motorcycle in Sampaloc, Manila on Saturday.

Investigators from the MPD identified the victim as James Rivera, former police officer assigned at the Tondo police station. He was shot near his residence at R. Cristobal Street, Barangay 475.

Reports said elements from the MPD’s España and Sibarma Police Community Precincts arrived at the crime scene a few minutes later but the perpetrators–a male and female–managed to flee toward an unknown direction.

Investigators are currently checking closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras within the vicinity in hopes of identifying the assailants. /jpv
