SAN PEDRO CITY – Students and teachers at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) will hold a rally Friday condemning the Supreme Court decision to oust its chief justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

The rally, set at 4 p.m. at UPLB’s Humanities Steps, was organized by the UPLB Unite in the Battle to Oust the Neoliberal Dictator (Unbound), an alliance of student activists.

“A rally was really set initially to call (people) ‘to stand with CJ (chief justice).’ But now it is to condemn the decision (of the Supreme Court). (President) Duterte really has now control over the three branches of the government,” said Unbound representative Casey Cruz.

Cruz said some UPLB professors were planning to join the rally and were calling on students to walk out of their afternoon classes.

Eight Supreme Court justices voted in favor of the quo warranto petition against Sereno.

Cruz said they were expecting at least 150 to join the rally and wear black to express their disgust over the High Court ruling.
