The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has initiated its own investigation into the case of two airport police officers arrested on Wednesday night for alleged extortion.
While the agency is still waiting for the post-operation report on the arrests of police officers Danilo Levite Jr. and Pablo Atayde, MIAA general manager Ed Monreal said that a parallel probe by their agency will also be launched.
“As of now, we are still waiting for MIAA’s copy of the post-operation report to be rendered by the apprehending team of the Philippine National Police-Counter Intelligence Task Force (PNP-CITF),” Monreal said in a statement on Thursday.
“Meanwhile, I have also ordered MIAA AGM for Security Arnulfo Junio to initiate a parallel probe into the allegation,” he said.

Levite and Atayde were arrested at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday following an entrapment operation by the PNP-CITF and the PNP Intelligence Group at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2.
The entrapment operation was set up after the two police officers have allegedly extorted cash from drivers picking up passengers at the airport terminal.
The two were arrested after receiving marked money provided by an undercover agent. They were detained at Camp Crame in Quezon City and were facing charges for robbery and extortion. /ee
