P17M worth of marijuana destroyed in Kalinga
BAGUIO CITY – Fully-grown marijuana plants worth P17.4 million were destroyed by the police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency during an April 27-29 operation in the outskirts of Tinglayan town in Kalinga province.
The Cordillera police said 860,000 plants and seedlings were uprooted and burned in Barangays (villages) Buscalan and Loccong. The police did not say if marijuana farmers were arrested during the operation.
Most marijuana plantations are grown in remote villages in the Cordillera, and have been subjected to routine eradication drives by the police and the military.
