Today, May 1, is the 106th birth anniversary of National Artist for Music Felipe Padilla de Leon.
A composer, conductor and scholar, he received various awards and distinctions, including the Republic
Cultural Heritage Award, Presidential Award of Merit and Patnubay ng Kalinangan Award.
De Leon died on Dec. 5, 1992, and was named a National Artist in 1997. —Marielle Medina
