The Sandiganbayan has denied the motion for reconsideration filed by the Office of the Ombudsman paving the way for former Senator Jinggoy Estrada to travel to the United States from April 30 to May 30.

In a resolution promulgated on April 24, the Sandiganbayan re-affirms its decision to allow Estrada to fly to the US and attend a speaking engagement.

Estrada intended to travel to US after US Pinoys for Good Governance (USPGG) Michigan Chapter Head William Dechavez invited him to be a guest speaker for a May 20 event.  In his motion, Estrada presented a copy of the invitation with Dechavez’ signature.

Ombudsman’s prosecution team claimed that the invitation was a falsified document, made-up by Estrada’s camp.

However, Sandiganbayan said that the Ombudsman failed to prove the allegation, after only citing USPGG National Chair Loida Nicolas-Lewis’ and President Rodil Rodis’ statements saying that Estrada was not invited by the organization. /jpv
