Allies in House back Aquino on Arroyo case

/ 12:09 PM November 22, 2011

MANILA, Philippines-Allies of President Aquino are rallying behind his administration’s efforts to keep former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in the country and force her to face charges of plunder and electoral sabotage.

Majority Speaker Neptali Gonzales II said at least 120 representatives have signed the resolution filed Monday night and he expected more signatories on Tuesday.

Deputy Speaker Lorenzo Tañada III said that the resolution was meant to show Congress ” support for the extraordinary political will exercised by (Mr. Aquino) in upholding the tenets of good governance and public accountability.”

The resolution has come at an opportune time when the executive has been under fire for clashing with the Supreme Court on its methods in blocking Arroyo’s departure from the country and its perceived haste in filing the electoral sabotage case against the now Pampanga representative which has led to her hospital arrest since Friday night.
