The Commission of Elections (Comelec) has extended the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections until Saturday, April 21.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the poll body’s decision came after the National Youth Commission expressed concern that the number of candidacies filed would fall short of the 338,584 SK positions up for grabs in the May 14 polls.
“With similar concerns being raised with regard to the number of (COCs) filed for the barangay elections, the Comelec en banc ordered the extension of the period to…April 21,” he said in a statement.—JULIE M. AURELIO
