Poe tops ‘Magic 12’ – Pulse Asia survey
Incumbent and former senators who would seek re-election are leading the list of possible top contenders in the 2019 mid-term elections, a recent pre-election survey of the Pulse Asia showed.
Senator Grace Poe topped the list followed by Senator Cynthia Villar and former Senator Pia Cayetano, who is now a Taguig Representative.
Re-electionists Nancy Binay and Sonny Angara were also on the list, including presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel; former Senators Sergio Osmeña, Lito Lapid, and Jinggoy Estrada; broadcaster Erwin Tulfo; and former PNP Chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa were on the “Magic 12.”
Poe, a frontrunner in the 2010 senatorial elections had the highest awareness among respondents at 97 percent while 70.8 percent said they would vote for her.
Article continues after this advertisementVillar got 55.6 percent of the votes from among surveyed respondents while Cayetano had 53.8 percent.
Article continues after this advertisementAt fourth place was Binay with 45.8 percent, followed by Angara with 44.9, Duterte-Carpio with 43.8, Pimentel with 39.8 percent, Osmeña with 38 percent, Tulfo with 36.7 percent, Lapid with 33.8, Dela Rosa with 33.1, and Estrada with 32.8 percent at 12th place.
The survey was conducted from March 23 to 28, 2018., days before Pimentel, president of the ruling political party PDP-Laban, disclosed their “evolving list” of senatorial bets. /kga
