President Rodrigo Duterte has declared the month of April as Filipino Food Month or Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino.
The chief executive signed Proclamation 469 on April 13, but Malacañang released it only on Tuesday.
“Our vast culinary tradition and treasures should be appreciated, preserved and promoted to ensure their transmission to future generations and to support the various industries, farmers and agri-communities which benefit there from,” the President said.
Under the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009, “the culinary tradition is recognized as part of our cultural heritage.”
President Duterte directed the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to lead the annual celebration.
He also encouraged government departments, bureaus and agencies as well as government-owned and controlled corporations, state universities and colleges and local government units to assist in the activities. – eee
