BAGUIO CITY – Supporters of Chief Justice-on-leave Maria Lourdes Sereno on Tuesday night burned posters bearing the photographs of five Supreme Court justices who testified against her in Congress.
Members of the Coalition for Justice were waiting for Sereno who attended oral arguments at the SC summer courthouse to determine whether the court would accept a quo warranto petition filed to oust the SC leader.
The photos of Justices Teresita de Castro, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Francis Jardeleza and Noel Tijam were set on fire to dramatize the group’s demand for them to recuse themselves from the quo warranto petition filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida. But all five justices participated in the oral arguments.
“If the Supreme Court which metes out justice has stopped being just then we are in trouble,” said Pastor Caloy Diño, a coalition member, who led prayers while the group sat in vigil at the edge of the road outside the courthouse.
Police officers blocked the road when the group arrived on Tuesday morning to stage a picket.
