April 8

Sillag Festival

A festival of lights at San Fernando City in La Union province. “Sillag” is derived from the Ilocano word “sellag,” which means moonbeam, or a ray of light from the moon. Events include a lights parade, firebirds and pyromusical show, air show and a concert.

Dinamulag Festival

A festival featuring locally grown mangoes of the town of Iba in Zambales province. The term “dinamulag” is a Sambali (early inhabitants) word meaning “carabao,” the dominant mango variety grown in the province, specifically in Masinloc town. Activities include a float parade and competition, sand sculpting contest, carabao racing and cultural presentation.

April 10 to 14

Rodeo Masbateño

The city of Masbate in Masbate province promotes its cattle industry in a series of events participated in by ranch owners. Rodeo is about mastering basic skills in handling cattle that include throwing and pulling the lasso as well as holding and restraining the animal. As of 2015, Masbate had about 130 ranchers tending more than 40,000 head of cattle.
