The United States Embassy in Manila would be closed on Monday, April 9, in observance of Bataan Day or Araw ng Kagitingan.

Regular services in its offices will resume on Tuesday, April 10, according to its Information Office.

The Embassy of the United States in the Philippines and affiliated offices will be closed to the public on Monday, April 9, in observance of Bataan Day, a Philippine holiday,” the Embassy said in a statement on Friday.

Bataan Day, also known as Araw ng Kagitingan or Day of Valor, is a regular holiday in the country in commemoration of the bravery of Filipino and American soldiers who surrendered to Japanese forces during World War II.

It also marks the beginning of the Bataan Death March, where thousands of Filipino and American prisoners of war were forcibly transferred from Bataan to Tarlac by walking about 137 kilometers in six days. /kga
