Duterte accepts Aguirre’s resignation

President Rodrigo Duterte has accepted the resignation of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II.

“I accepted the resignation of Vit Aguirre, my fraternity brother, as Secretary of Justice. I am now in the hustings looking for a replacement,” Duterte said in a speech during the awarding of outstanding farmers, fisherfolk, and coastal communities in Malacañang on Thursday.

President Duterte provided no further details on Aguirre’s resignation.

Aguirre’s resignation came after Malacañang said the President was displeased with the dismissal of the drug charges against self-confessed drug dealer Rolando “Kerwin” Espinosa Jr., alleged drug lord Peter Lim, and several others.

Aguirre, Duterte’s classmate and fraternity brother at the San Beda College law school, has not made any statement regarding his resignation.

He even attended the 24th Cabinet meeting in Malacañang on Wednesday.

Duterte had earlier hinted of a possible Cabinet revamp, citing he was not happy with the performance of some of his officials. /je
