6.0-magnitude earthquake hits Davao Oriental

 

A  6.0-magnitude earthquake jolted Tarragona town in Davao Oriental on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The earthquake of tectonic origin struck the area at 11:53 a.m., according to a Phivolcs bulletin issued at 12:45 p.m.

Phivolcs has warned the public of aftershocks but said that there was no expected damage.

The following intensities were reported in the following areas:

Intensity IV – Mati City

Intensity III – Davao City, Cagayan de Oro City and General Santos City

Intensity II – Bislig City, Surigao City and Alabel, Sarangani

Meanwhile, the following instrumental intensities were reported in the following areas:

Intensity III – Borongan, Eastern Samar

Intensity II – General Santos City, Koronadal City and Alabel, Sarangani

Intensity I – Bislig City; Kidapawan City; Talibon, Bohol; Palo, Leyte; Cebu City

Phivolcs said the depth of the quake reached 27 kilometers.       /muf
