Signal No. 3 up in Catanduanes, where Pepito seen to make landfall

MANILA, Philippines — State meteorologists hosted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 over parts of Catanduanes where Typhoon Pepito (international name: Man-yi) is expected to make landfall.

As of 2:00 a.m. Saturday, Pepito was last spotted 260 kilometers (km) east northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, or 280 km east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour (kph) with gustiness of up to 190 kph.

In addition to the towns of Gigmoto, Baras, Bato, and San Miguel in Catanduanes, Palapag and Laoang in Eastern Samar are also under TCWS No. 3.

Areas under TCWS No. 3  will see 89 to 117 kph wind speed, causing moderate to significant threat to life and property.

Pepito is forecast to make landfall in Catanduanes on Saturday evening or early Sunday morning.

Furthermore, the following areas are under TCWS No. 2, where winds of greater than 62 kph and up to 88 kph may be expected in at least 24 hours, causing minor to moderate impacts to life and property:

Meanwhile, these areas are under TCWS No. 1, where wind speeds of 39 to 61 kph may pose a minimal to minor threat to life and property.
