Cell phone thief caught inside Mandaluyong City Hall

A man was arrested inside Mandaluyong City Hall on Monday after he was caught taking the cell phone of an employee who left it on her desk.

According to a report sent to Eastern Police District director, Chief Supt. Reynaldo Biay, Melanie Villanueva, a city hall employee, went to the toilet, leaving her phone behind.

A concerned citizen identified as Mark Garrido saw Jay-r Canoy taking the victim’s phone.

Garrido shouted at Canoy and chased him, resulting in the suspect’s capture and the recovery of the phone worth P12,000.

The 39-year-old Canoy, a resident of Tondo, Manila, admitted taking the cell phone, said investigator PO3 Dingdong Dominguez.

He is currently detained at the Mandaluyong City police station.
