Purple-wearing group pickets SC Baguio vs quo warranto petition

BAGUIO CITY – Members of the Coalition for Justice picketed the summer compound of the Supreme Court on Tuesday (April 3) in Baguio demanding the dismissal of a quo warranto petition filed to annul the appointment of Chief Justice-on-leave Maria Lourdes Sereno.

Around 50 people wearing purple shirts marched towards the front gates of the Baguio Court House chanting “Protect democracy,” catching Court security off guard.

“We are in dark Times,” a coalition spokesperson said here, because of alleged attempts to oust Sereno unconstitutionally.

Retired priest Joseph Francia, a member of the Pilipino Movement for Transformational Leadership, said the impeachment process was already underway, “and afford CJ Sereno the opportunity to defend herself in the appropriate venue, the Senate of the Philippines.”

Ed Villoria, one of the picket organizers, said they travelled To Baguio To send the signal that they want the law to be followed.
