Twenty-five people were killed and 56 others were injured in various Holy Week vehicular and drowning incidents nationwide, a National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) report showed on Monday.
In its April 1 Holy Week update, the NDRRMC recorded 13 deaths in 12 separate vehicular accidents in Ilocos, Calabarzon, and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Seven of the fatalities were killed in a road crash in Barangay Carsuche in Taal, Batangas on March 30, involving an Isuzu 10-wheeler truck which hit a parked Isuzu 10-wheeler truck, which then smashed into five other parked vehicles. The casualties were declared dead on the spot, the NDRRMC reported.
Twelve people were also killed in 14 drowning incidents in Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and CAR, according to the NDRRMC.
Most of the incidents happened on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, when most people were out on the road traveling or spending their time on the beach. /kga
