Magnitude 3.9 earthquake shakes Leyte

A 3.9-magnitude earthquake shook the province of Leyte on Good Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tremor hit east of Abuyog around 8:33 a.m., according to Phivolcs. The towns of Abuyog and Dulog felt the temblor at Intensity 3.

It likewise resulted to an Intensity 2 quake at Borongan City in Eastern Samar, which was also jolted by a 4.7-magnitude earthquake hours before.

The town of Lawaan also in Eastern Samar felt the earthquake at Intensity 2.

Phivolcs, however, said no aftershocks or damage could be expected from the quake, which was of tectonic origin and had a depth of 12 kilometers. /kga
